Viking Crew - 5 Gyresby Shannon Waters

Through zero-visibility fog, iceberg-laden seas, and “soul-chilling” dampness, the 5 Gyres Viking Expedition Crew emerged safely from their 2,500 nautical mile journey from Bermuda to Iceland. All along the way, they conducted invaluable research on plastic pollution in remote waters never investigated before.

Preliminary findings in the region uncover microplastic particles present in every surface sample collected as well as evidence of microplastics below the surface – an area of plastic pollution science that is still largely unknown. Learn more about our findings from ourJune 27th Press Release.
