Plug In America

Plug In America is a non-profit organization whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity to reduce our nation's dependence on petroleum and improve the local and global environment.

On January 2nd, 2008, a group of individuals banded together to create Plug In America. This group originally formed in 2005 when large automakers began recalling and demolishing their electric vehicles. Through their valiant effort they were able to save over 1,000 cars, as documented in Who Killed the Electric Car?

Plug In America is a California non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity advocating for clean and sustainable grid connected electric vehicles, including the power used to run them. As a non-profit, we serve the interests of drivers and consumers, not those of automakers, utilities, or other for-profit participants in the EV market.

One of Plug In America’s main public outreach events is the Annual National Drive Electric Week, where we heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more.

What started as a single day within the U.S has blossomed into a global event.
