With the election over, the “decision” made, and now the new EPA director “chosen,” I truly fear for environmental progress.
The United States just elected a president who believes that climate change is a hoax, wants to dismantle the Paris climate accords and surely has his hands deep in the pockets of the oil businesses.
And, if that weren’t bad enough, the lawmakers, the House and the Senate, are also controlled by Republicans whose hands are deep in the pockets of the oil businesses.
When so many branches of government believe that climate change is a hoax and doesn’t exist, it does not bode well for acting on it, or trying to mitigate the worst effects.
Climate change, human rights, conservation, animal welfare, healthcare, almost any social program, you can bet will be cut. Earth cannot afford to wait another four years for climate action. Our children cannot wait another four years for climate action.
Species such as rhinos, elephants, whales cannot wait another four years for better protections.
Persons with disabilities, chronic diseases and low incomes, cannot wait another four years for help and services.
As long as I have a voice, I will continue to advocate, fight, and be the voice for those who are voiceless.
As many have said today, government is not just the federal government. Government is local institutions, local movements and local advocacy. We all need to do our part, to contribute to this local discussion.
