James Duncan, a Ph.D. student studying wind energy, works in the National Wind Institute with his advisor, Dr. John Schroeder. His research group’s main focus is smart wind farms. They look at the challenges and underperformance of current wind farms and use mobile Doppler radar systems to document and analyze the change in wind “flow fields” between the turbines. James also investigates the solutions that wind farms can implement to mitigate their efficiency problems.
Videos for Science features graduate students from Texas Tech University explaining their research in regards to climate change. These videos give the viewer an inside look on graduate students collecting, analyzing, and recording data from their instruments.
